Casey to feature in Joe Swash: Teens in Care BBC Documentary!

Our young person, Casey, poses with TV presenter Joe Swash for BBC 1 documentary - Joe Swash: Teens in Care

Well, it’s been a long time coming but we can finally reveal that our brilliant care-experienced young person, Casey, is going to feature in BBC 1’s documentary, Joe Swash: Teens in Care!

Casey has bravely shared her traumatic story via Community Foster Care’s channels previously and is a really passionate advocate for children and young people living in foster care. When the call came in, that Firecracker Films were looking for teens in care who would be interested in taking part in the BBC commissioned documentary, we knew Casey would want to get involved. So, you can imagine how thrilled we were when Casey was chosen to feature and get to meet and chat with Joe Swash!

Joe Swash’s mum is a foster carer and seeing his own foster siblings’ experience of moving on from foster care prompted Joe to have a closer look at, and shine a light on, the system and what happens to teenagers and young people when they age out of foster care.

Joe Swash: Teens in Care will air on BBC 1 at 9pm on 11th July 2023. Catch up on iPlayer

With Casey recently moving on from foster care but maintaining a close relationship with our charity, she was keen to have her voice and experience heard, not only to help support other children and young people but to also support foster parent’s understanding of their foster children and their possible life experiences. We will, of course, continue to support her in this mission but Joe Swash: Teens in Care has given her a huge opportunity to raise awareness and share her message on a massive platform, so we couldn’t be happier for her.
