Meet our Foster Carer, Simon
What is being a foster carer like? Simon shares his experience.
We know when people are researching how to become a foster carer, they spend a lot of time - often many months - trying to gather as much information as possible. The world of fostering is also somewhat a minefield with hundreds of fostering agencies to navigate and lots of foreign terms (what’s a ‘form F’ or an ‘IFA’?) One of the best ways to learn about fostering is to speak to those foster carers who have been through completing their form F assessment and can speak honestly about what fostering children is really like.
If you don’t know anyone who can help you figure out how to get started with foster care, we’re here to help! Simon and his wife have been fostering with Community Foster Care since 2018. Previously a youth worker, Simon felt he had more to offer vulnerable children and young people.
We asked Simon:
Why did you want to foster?
What is the best thing about fostering?
What is the most difficult or challenging part of fostering?
What would you say to someone thinking about becoming a foster carer?
Simon’s message to anyone thinking about fostering is, do it! There is no doubt fostering is challenging work but equally the reward is great. If you’d like to speak with our foster carers or our social workers, you’re more than welcome to get in touch and look out for our virtual meet the carer events on our Facebook page.
